Examples of actions implemented under the HR Excellence in Research Strategy

Examples of Actions Implemented under the HR Excellence in Research Strategy

The implementation of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) at Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology focuses on creating a modern, open, and supportive working environment while fostering researchers’ career development. The key initiatives implemented include:

a) Transparent Recruitment and Staff Evaluation

The University has implemented and continuously improved its Open, Transparent and Merit-based Recruitment (OTM-R) policy, updated recruitment procedures, and simplified and standardised the periodic evaluation system for academic staff.

b) Professional Development of Researchers

Academic staff and doctoral candidates participate in training courses covering research project preparation, research data management, Open Access, intellectual property, teaching competences, and transferable skills. The University also supports participation in conferences, internships, and national and international mobility programmes.

c) Development of the Doctoral School

A system for monitoring doctoral candidates’ progress has been introduced, together with regular surveys evaluating supervisor–doctoral candidate relationships. In addition, the University developed the handbook Good Practices in Supervisor–Doctoral Candidate Relations, promoting high-quality academic supervision.

d) Equality, Ethics and a Supportive Working Environment

The University has implemented a Gender Equality Plan (GEP) and strengthened measures aimed at preventing mobbing and discrimination while promoting an organisational culture based on ethics, equal opportunities, integrity, and responsibility.

e) Improving Access to Information

An employee guide has been developed and made available on the University's internal UNISPACE platform. It provides practical information on internal procedures, legal regulations, IT systems, University websites, library resources, and support services, making it easier for both new and current employees to navigate the University's organisational structure and use its internal tools and applications.

f) Interdisciplinary Scientific Seminars

Since the 2021/2022 academic year, Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology has regularly organised interdisciplinary scientific seminars. These seminars provide researchers and doctoral candidates from different disciplines with an opportunity to present their research interests, ongoing projects, and research results. They also promote knowledge exchange, strengthen the academic community, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

g) International Cooperation

The University has continued to strengthen its internationalisation efforts by participating in international research projects, publishing with international partners, organising interdisciplinary scientific seminars, and supporting the national and international mobility of researchers and doctoral candidates.

The implementation of the HRS4R Strategy is continuously monitored and evaluated. Its effectiveness is assessed through staff surveys and regular reviews of the Strategy, while the evaluation results provide the basis for identifying further improvement measures in line with the principle of continuous development.
