Examples of Implemented Initiatives

  • Code of Ethics for Researchers

Research Ethics and Research Integrity

Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology places great emphasis on conducting research in accordance with the highest ethical standards and the principles of research integrity. As part of the implementation of the HR Excellence in Research Strategy, a dedicated section on research ethics has been created on the University's website. It provides access to key documents, guidelines, and materials supporting responsible research practices.

One of the principal documents available to employees is the Code of Ethics for Researchers, developed by the Committee on Ethics in Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Code defines the values and principles governing scientific research, promotes good research practices, and sets out standards for responsible conduct in research.

  • Student Mentoring Programme

The mentoring programmes implemented at the Faculty of Animal Breeding and Biology represent an innovative approach to education based on the concept of research-based learning. They provide students with opportunities to develop practical skills under the supervision of experienced researchers and specialists, work in small research teams, and participate in real scientific projects.

The programme offers specialised workshops covering, among others, cold-water aquariums, proper calf rearing, modern biological data analysis using artificial intelligence, feed quality assessment using conventional and NIRS methods, biofeedback, poultry reproduction, and metagenomic analysis of microorganisms. Participants gain practical laboratory and field experience while developing skills in data analysis, scientific observation, research documentation, and problem-solving.

Classes are conducted in small groups under the guidance of mentors, ensuring an individual approach and enabling participants to acquire practical research, laboratory, and project-based skills. Students also develop competencies in teamwork, data analysis, scientific observation, documentation of research results, and analytical thinking.

In 2026, recruitment was carried out for several mentoring programmes, including:

  1. Invisible Rulers – A Practical Course in Metagenomic Analysis of Microorganisms Instructor: Dr Eng. Sebastian Knaga Duration: 9 December 2025 – 27 January 2026

  1. Biofeedback – Conscious Control of Selected Physiological Functions Instructor: Dr Eng. Iwona Ałtyn Duration: 9–13 March 2026

  1. Establishing and Maintaining Cold-Water Aquariums Instructors: Dr Eng. Bogusław Chachaj, MSc Eng. Marcin Grycza Duration: 26 March – 21 May 2026

  1. Feed under the Microscope – Feed Composition Analysis Using Conventional and NIRS Methods Instructor: Dr Eng. Iwona Zaremba Duration: 11 May – 9 June 2026

  1. Proper Calf Rearing Instructors: MSc Eng. Bartosz Bigorowski, DVM Sandra Kunda Duration: 26 June – 4 July 2026

Planned Programme

  1. From Data to Discovery – Modern Biological Data Analysis Using Artificial Intelligence in Animal Science Instructors: Prof. Dariusz Piwczyński, Dr Hab. Beata Sitkowska, Professor at Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology Duration: 14 October – 9 December 2026

All mentoring activities are designed to foster students' scientific interests and provide opportunities to gain practical experience beyond the standard study programme.

The mentoring programmes are co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education under the Regional Initiative of Excellence (RID) programme.

  • Employee Service Centre

The Employee Service Centre was established to streamline and centralise employee support at Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology, particularly in the areas of human resources, payroll, social benefits, and Employee Capital Plans (PPK). It provides employees with a single, easily accessible point of contact where they can obtain comprehensive assistance.

The Centre serves as the first point of contact for all HR and payroll-related matters. Submitted requests are registered, categorised, and forwarded to the appropriate specialists in the Human Resources Department and Payroll Department. Through the University's electronic document management system (EZD), employees can monitor the status of their requests, increasing transparency and reducing processing times.

The Centre also supports newly employed staff by coordinating the employment process, including signing employment contracts, providing information on employment conditions, remuneration, employee benefits, social services, Employee Capital Plans (PPK), and internal University procedures.

Another important responsibility of the Centre is the preparation and distribution of employment-related documents, including employment contracts, amendments, referrals for occupational health examinations, certificates, and other HR documentation.

The establishment of the Employee Service Centre has improved the quality of employee services, standardised administrative processes, increased the efficiency of HR and Payroll Departments, and strengthened communication between employees and the University's administrative units. It represents a modern organisational solution supporting efficient human resources management and enhancing employee satisfaction.

  • New Employee Guide

An Easier Start at Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology

To support the onboarding process, the University has developed a New Employee Guide, which is provided to future employees before they sign their employment contract.

The Guide takes new employees through each stage of joining the University—from the formalities to be completed before employment, through the first working day, to the key activities during the first month of employment. It includes practical guidance, checklists, essential contacts, and information about the University's organisation, training opportunities, and everyday procedures.

The Guide complements the internal UNISPACE platform by providing access to essential information before employees receive access to the University's IT systems. As a result, new staff members can prepare more effectively for their first day at work and experience a smoother transition into the University's academic community.

(Central Database of Internal Legal Acts / Internal Regulations Database):

Easier Access to Internal Regulations

As part of the implementation of the HR Excellence in Research Strategy, Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology is developing an Internal Legal Acts Repository – a modern system designed to provide quick and convenient access to the University's internal regulations issued by its governing bodies.

The repository will bring together all currently applicable internal legal acts in a single location, providing employees with easy access to up-to-date regulations, resolutions, policies, and other internal documents. The initiative aims to improve the transparency of the University's legal framework, streamline access to information, and facilitate the everyday use of internal documentation.

The system will also incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) functionalities to enable intuitive information retrieval and rapid identification of relevant provisions within legal documents. By using modern technologies, employees will be able to obtain answers to questions concerning applicable regulations and internal procedures more efficiently.

Work on the system is currently underway and includes developing the repository concept, preparing tools for publishing legal acts, and designing an AI assistant to support information retrieval. The first version of the system is scheduled to be released as part of the next stages of the University's HRS4R Action Plan.

Summary:

Objectives

  • Develop, implement, and launch a publication platform bringing together all internal legal acts issued by the University's governing bodies.

  • Enable AI-assisted searching of information within the repository.

  • Store the contents of legal acts using an atomic content structure to improve searchability and data management.

Activities Planned by 31 December 2026

  • Develop the functional framework for the legal acts publication platform.

  • Make all currently applicable internal legal acts available through the repository.

  • Release a test version of the system before the European Commission experts' assessment visit.

Activities Completed and Currently Underway

  • Completion of the conceptual work on the AI assistant model.

  • Development of the functional framework for the legal acts publication platform.

  • Development of a tool for exporting internal legal acts.
